Somehow,
I’ve managed to get into every museum for free. This year in honor of its 20th
anniversary, Thyssen Museum offers free admission to those born in 1992. Lucky
me. The layout of this museum is much easier to follow and less overwhelming
than Prado, but still has an enormous collection. They have works from the
1500s to 1970, all kinds of genres. I seem to be drawn to the 17th century
Italian, French, and Spanish religious paintings. I think it’s interesting
going to all these museums, the subject that I’ve seen the most portayals of is
by far the crucifixion, and there are less than a handful than I can recall of
the resurrection. I saw some beautiful biblical scenes today.
The
hours flew by there, and I had to rush back to the piso, but it’s actually nice
to be able to rush with a purpose knowing where I am going. I’m glad that I no
longer have to rely on Google maps, now I look up directions on the site just so
I can laugh and get there in less time on my own with a route that makes more
sense. Of course, now that I say this publicly, I am doomed to get hopelessly
lost in the near future and wish that I followed the suggested route.
Hugo
did not come to see me when he got home from school today and declared that I
am not allowed in his room. I’ve almost given up with this kid. Elena thinks he
may have a bit of a fever. At least things are going well with the girls, we're learning a lot from each other.
