I
have learned not to take a dryer for granted. Doing laundry here, there is only
a small washing machine next to the dishwasher in the kitchen and you have to
iron EVERYTHING.
The
weather is back to being cold and raining. I read in the metro station where I
was to meet up with a tutor who just got here a couple days ago from Florida.
Poor kid got lost and didn’t show. Having my history with Madrid’s public
transportation system, I can’t blame him. So, once again, I set off on my own
to visit Museo Reina Sofia. It’s a very impressive museum,
home to works of Picasso, Dali, Goya, and a bunch of the other big wigs. After
two hours, I was pretty tired and done with weird, erotic works, but I pushed
myself to stay until I saw everything--just before closing time. I’m glad I did. There was some historic
Spanish art from the 70s that used words—I enjoyed those and they sparked some
lesson plan ideas I will try with my freshmen. Mom, I saw some stuff that made
me think of you--be sure to remind me to tell you some ideas I saw that would
go nicely with your open frame décor. ;)
It was nice to come back to a quiet piso to myself. A luxury I will probably not have again here. Although every couple of minutes, there is a chorus of men cheering from outside. I can only guess that it has to do with soccer. Gotta love Spain. :)
